Question 1 of 10Single-Select Multiple Choice
Passage

Knitting is my favorite hobby. I feel such a sense of accomplishment when I finish a sweater or a pair of socks. A ball of wool holds so much potential, and is also a sustainable resource. The repetition of stitch after stitch is so relaxing. Researchers say it can have the same benefits as meditation. There are other health benefits of knitting, too. The craft can slow cognitive decline and improve symptoms of arthritis. I started knitting when I was in college and liked to knit during class. Knitting is a very portable hobby. It helped me pay attention to lectures. If you're looking for a fun hobby, perhaps you should give knitting a try.

Question 3 of 10Single-Select Multiple Choice
Passage

Cats vs. Dogs

There are many different choices when looking for a pet. Despite all the different possibilities, people will often choose either a cat or a dog. There really isn't any question, though. Except in one particular circumstance, one should always choose the cat.

First, cats are cleaner than dogs. Cats are constantly cleaning themselves. I am pretty sure the only time they lick anything is to clean it. If a cat starts licking you, it's because you are dirty and it wishes you were clean. Dogs lick everything, including your face and mouth. When a dog licks your mouth, it is like you have kissed anything the dog licked, including the bottom of your shoes and probably the toilet.

Second, cats are way more considerate than dogs. Dogs will drool on your freshly laundered linens all the time just because they want to, but cats try to make your clothes and furniture warmer by adding their fur. Cats use a litter box in order to contain their waste to a particular area, while dogs will use your shoes or favorite rug so that you know they mean business. A dog will bring you a stick or a ball you threw away, because it doesn't care that you threw it away for a reason. A cat will bring you dead animals because it wants to ensure your survival.

Finally, cats are more protective than dogs. Dogs will bark at cars for no reason and wake you up in the middle of the night. However, if a cat thinks a shadow is trying to suffocate you while you sleep, it will leap into action immediately to defend you.

The only time there should be a question about what pet to get is if you are allergic to cats. In that case, the question is, "How many fish do I want?"

After they had gone, he felt lonely and began to tire of his lady-love. "She has no conversation," he said, "and I am afraid that she is a coquette, for she is always flirting with the wind." "I admit that she is domestic," he continued, "but I love travelling, and my wife, consequently, should love travelling also."

Question 5 of 10Single-Select Multiple Choice
Passage

Baking a pie with seasonal fruit not only ensures that you're using the freshest ingredients, but it also provides an opportunity to explore the rich flavors of each season. In spring, consider making a strawberry rhubarb pie that combines sweet, juicy strawberries with tart rhubarb. Summer offers a plethora of options like peach, blueberry, and cherry pies. As fall approaches, apples and pears come into season, perfect for creating a classic apple pie or an inventive pear and cranberry pie. Winter might seem less fruitful, but citrus fruits like oranges or lemons are at their peak, ideal for a bright, tangy lemon meringue or a rich, caramelized orange tarte tatin.

Which of the following best evaluates the effectiveness of the author's argument regarding the use of seasonal fruits in pie baking?

Question 6 of 10Single-Select Multiple Choice
Passage

Meditation has been practiced for millennia because it promotes both mind and body wellness by training the brain to stay rooted in the present. Managing thoughts through meditation is called mindfulness. Increasing mindfulness has been linked to changes in brain structure. Mindfulness allows a pause between stimulus and response. Meditation and mindfulness often result in a more robust immune system. People who regularly practice meditation report having less stress and interpersonal conflict. Consequently, some health insurance companies offer discounts for people to attend meditation classes.

In 1932, the Australian government lost a war against the native emu population. The operation that has since become known as the Great Emu War began as an initiative to combat overpopulation of the crop-destroying birds invading farmland around Chandler and Walgoolan. The initial assault on the flightless avians began on November 2 and lasted six days before the military personnel withdrew. Efforts resumed on November 12, but by early December, the feathered foes had adopted guerrilla tactics against the targeted wheat fields, rendering military involvement largely ineffective. Question 9 of 10Single-Select Multiple Choice
Passage

Beard Superiority

Unlike most others who follow along with popular trends, I am able to truly see that the beard is superior to the mustache. First, you have so much more hair and space to work with when styling a beard than you do with a mustache. You can trim and cut a beard into so many styles: the Muttonchop, the Goatee, the Stubble, the Chin Strap. You can even add things to your beard: braids, beads, glitter, and color — the possibilities of what you can add to a beard are endless! There are even professional competitions that surround the stylish nature of beards.
